Experience the Beauty of Nature at Mudumalai Forest

Mudumalai was declared by the government as national wild life sanctuary in the year 1940. The sanctuaries were preserved to ensure the safety and long life of the natural wild life in India.

This forest is located at the tri ? junction of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It covers the western part of the Nilgiris, and parts of Western Ghats, descending to the Plateau of Mysore.

Flora of the forest

There are various trees and plants in the forest, whose beauty is worth watching. In this forest you will get to see dry ? deciduous trees, thorn ? scrub, varieties of tall grass also know as Elephant grass. You will also see Bamboos, Teak, Rosewood, Mathi, Venteak and Vengai.

Various shrubs also grow in this area.

Some of them are Coral tree, Flame of the forest and Indian Laburnum.

There are a variety of trees that bear fruits, and there are various kinds of fig trees too.

The natural vegetation is completely enchanting. Here in the forest, you will experience the amazing beauty all around you, the fresh air acts like a balm to your soul, making you feel peaceful and stress free.

Fauna of the forest

The fauna of the forest adds to the beauty of the place, the colorful Thorn Coster, the Blue Mormon and other vivid and beautiful butterflies enhance the beauty of the woods. They add color to the surroundings and please the eyes and mind of a person visiting the sanctuary.

The fauna of the place adds to the excitement of the forest and the surroundings. You will get to see various species of animals around roaming freely in their natural environment.

Some of the animals that that you might see at the sanctuary are Elephants, Tiger, Jungle cat, Mongoose, Deer, Wild Dog, Indian Giant Squirrels, Wild Boar, Antelope, and Porcupine.

The climate is moderate throughout the year. The temperature is in the range of 15 deg C ? 35 deg C. It is warm between the months of March and May, while it is cooler from November to February.

Travelling to the forest

The forest of Mudumalai is well connected through various roads and highways. You can easily travel by bus or use other modes of transportation that might be convenient to you and your family or friends.

It is recommended that you travel by bus, as you will be able to witness the beautiful natural environment around.?

With the advancement in technology, booking bus tickets online is very easy and convenient through internet. The sanctuary is well connected and all buses plying between the cities of Mysore and Ooty stopover at Theppakkadu reception centre. You can also buy bus tickets from any of the bus stand counters in the cities. If travelling in a large group then the best thing for you would be to hire a bus. ?

It is also recommended that booking of bus tickets should be done before starting your journey, as it makes your journey convenient and easy.
